We are pleased to offer a mixture of workshops this autumn, offering both sewing and knitting in conjunction with our new shop opening. The classes are run from 10am - 4pm with lunch at the Tower House Gallery included.

This autumn's tutors -

Elizabeth Gurney

Liz Gurney comes from a long line of dressmakers. Her mother, grandmother and great grandmother have all passed on their skills to her over many years. Her love of dressmaking began with making doll's clothes as a young child but soon grew into a passion for many other crafts including, knitting, crochet, patchwork , costume making, beading and millinery. She currently works as a dressmaker specialising in alterations to couture wedding dresses and also undertakes commissions for clients. Her millinery skills were learnt at Wombourne School of Millinery and she has recently featured in a DVD on how to make fascinators produced by How2Hats in which she demonstrates one of her designs. She is also an expert tutu maker where her past experience as a dance teacher has given her special insight into this complex and fascinating area of dance costume. Liz is looking forward to teaching a variety of workshops for us and to share her skills and enthusiasm with her students.

Marietta Alker

Marietta's love for felt started several years ago whilst she was studying Emrbroidery at Westhope College.  It has now become an all encompassing passion in its many forms. She has always worked with wool and have knitted since a teenager. She loves the tactile quality of wool and the fact that from an insubstantial wisp of combed wool straight from the sheep, felt can be created for myriad uses. A talented feltmaker, knitter and crocheter, Marietta teaches at many of the local art colleges.
